The Official Brisbane Pride Festival Launch Party will take things to whole new level in 2018, uniting with Brisbane Festival to take over King Street, Bowen Hills for the ultimate celebration of love in the form of a free street-party extravaganza on Saturday, 8th September.

And what better way to celebrate love than a WEDDING? How about a bunch of weddings, taking place simultaneously? Radiating rainbows in the electorate that polled the highest ‘Yes’ vote in Queensland in last year’s marriage equality survey, Qweens on King will see eight LGBTIQ couples tie the knot on stage, sharing their special day with the crème de la crème of Brisbane’s best queer performers and fabulous hosts, for the launch of the 29th annual Brisbane Pride Festival.

Brisbane Festival Artistic Director David Berthold said the glittering event and first-time collaboration with Brisbane Pride Festival promised to be one of this year’s Festival highlights.

“I remember the day the yes vote was announced – people just wanted to be with their community. Wherever it was, they wanted to be with others,” Berthold said.

“Seeing that deep need to not celebrate at home, but in public, and with friends and strangers, was something special, and we hope to create that same sense of magic and community in King Street in September.”

“I’m hoping that the eight couples we find will represent a broad spectrum of personal experiences, from those who have been through the Bjelke-Petersen time when homosexual acts were still illegal, to newcomers and the multitude of various cultures within all those letters: L-G-B-T-I-Q-plus.”

Brisbane Pride Vice President Michael James said the historic event would be “a gathering of rainbow sophistication and flair”.

“We’ve chosen the music, arranged the flowers, booked the photographer and invited some of Australia’s best queer artists as entertainment.” James said.

LGBTIQ couples who want to get married, renew vows or have previously tied-the-knot overseas and want to relive the occasion with friends, family and an adoring crowd are encouraged to apply online at – applications close midnight, Wednesday 25 July.
