Two of the most important events of the Brisbane Pride Festival are the Pride Rally followed by the Pride March. Beginning in 1990, the Pride Rally and March were a call for justice and equality for the burgeoning gay and lesbian community in Brisbane. As various battles of equality have been won, the events have transitioned from a purely political event to an inclusive and joyous family event that attracts thousands of people every year, as well as a politician or two. It is these two events that were the genesis of the Brisbane Pride Festival.
In 2015, the Brisbane Pride Festival Rally and March will commence at 10am on Saturday 19 September. It will be held on Brunswick St between Ann and McLachlan Streets. Just as we did in 2013 and 2014, the Rally will close Brunswick St in the heart of Fortitude Valley, a central and visible symbol of our community’s strength.
